Jens Horstmann

Jens Horstmann has 33 years of executive, technology and engineering experience in Silicon Valley and global high-tech industries. He is the Managing Director of Salt Flats Capital and co-founded Salt Flats, a strategy and innovation firm that leverages start-ups to assist enterprises in their digital transformation. Jens is a founding Director and Executive Producer at Crestlight Venture Productions, a start-up services company and venture capital fund focused on Machine Learning, IoT solutions and Robotics. He served as VP of Entertainment Technology of NCR Corp. and advises other Fortune 500 companies. Previously, he was CTO, president and CEO of DVDPlay, the creator of Redbox’s original automated DVD kiosk and business intelligence technology. Mr. Horstmann has angel invested in numerous start-ups, serves on several boards, chairs the German American Business Association and manages MXGO, an intellectual property licensing firm. He holds more than 25 patents and founded B2B platform provider Ensemble Solutions in the mid 1990s, was CEO of OpenGrid, an early location-basedservices pioneer and lectured at UC Berkeley. His prior experience includes senior engineering, research and development positions at Sun Microsystems, Siemens, LSI Logic, Deutsche Telekom and predictive analytics firm X1 Corp. He lives with his family in Silicon Valley and is an avid pilot.

Frank Spies

Frank has deep expertise and experience in large system architecture design and implementation. He co-founded X1 to bring the technical analysis aspect of the Financial Market to the front tier of FINTECH, most of the time you can find him deeply immersed in charts covered in squiggly lines that look like modern art deciphering patterns and developing the latest algorithms to capture profits.

Previously he designed the second generation Sparc Station at Sun with Andy Bechtolsheim; He was the architect of Ensemble distributed internet service platform and was CTO and co-founder of OpenGrid, an early internet B2B startup for location-based services. Frank also worked at Nvidia as a senior architect engineer and project lead for the hardware and software design of the Tesla and Fermi display unit. In his spare time, you can find Frank enjoying 3D computer animation while watching F1 racing and feeding squirrels.

Jenny Chen

Jennie has extensive experiences in operations and technology consulting; her domain expertises across Healthcare and Finance Industries. She focuses on data analytics, process improvement, operation service solution design, risk management and mitigation. Jennie is the COO at X1 responsible for daily operation and risk management.

Prior to X1, Jennie worked as a management consultant for Price Waterhouse, advising Fortune 500 companies and national healthcare institute on operation and risk management. Previously, she led multiple large system implementations for the nation’s largest healthcare institue. Jennie enjoys swimming and doing Yoga in her spare time.
